curious minds, growing bodies

June 10, 2008

Picture this…Dinner is on the table. we all are sitting around eating and talking about our days like we do every time when we eat dinner. it is a lot of fun to hear what was important and what they did not like about their day.  Kinda brings life into a bit more perspective.

After we went around the table i started talking about how we needed to go back to the library and how we needed to get new books.  I said we needed to return our books about bodies.  So that lead to question and answer time.  I know I know, I asked for it. I walked right into this….

They say it is better to talk to your children about bodies and such so they are not learning these things on the school playground.  If you open the conversation up they will be more likely to come talk to you about body related issues…..SO, I asked “anyone have any questions when they looked in the book?”

Giggles break out.  Nathaniel tells me he has a question but does not want to ask….so Raymond and Nathaniel are whispering to one another, I try so hard to give them their space. After their mini conference, with much laughter, Raymond busts out and proudly says, “I WILL ASK!”

Go for it….as i brace myself! holding on hoping that i too do not bust out laughing…

“What are BOOBIES for?” Raymond asks proudly, the table erupts into laughter.  I too am laughing.

I say to them, well the real name is not “boobies”, Nathaniel proudly says “No they are called “Nipples” lifting up his shirt to show me as if i didnt know or had a set of my own!

Now i want to be on the floor in hysterics, and why is no one here to enjoy this!!  I try as hard i can to pull myself together and then asked what other names did they know them by….i corrected them and told  them what “boobies” are for and what the name is and how they should use that instead. I could not believe i was asking if they knew any other slang works for “boobies”

all the time i looked around wondering if candid camera was in the room. it was priceless.

so as raymond and i were cleaning the kitchen he innocently asked, “so mommy do you still have milk?” (I did tell them i nursed them until they were 13months, perhaps a mistake)

Curious minds, growing bodies. How am I going to make it??
